Azerbaijan`s Ministry of Foreign Affairs made statement on country`s taking over UN Security Council presidency
Foreign Ministry of Azerbaijan has issued a statement since the country has taken over UN Security Council Presidency. Azerbaijan has achieved a great diplomatic success on October 24, 2011 as it was elected a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2012-2013. Following 17 rounds of high competition, our country gained confidence of the international community and managed to win the support of 155 UN member countries.This victory, which coincided with 20th anniversary of the country`s independence, became a true indicator of great accomplishments achieved by our country within short span of time thanks to implementation of the balanced, multi-vector and deliberate foreign policy. Azerbaijan`s election as the non-permanent member of the UN Security council is a striking evidence of its rising prestige both in the region and international arena, active participation in ongoing processes in the world and contribution to peace and tranquility. Beginning from this day, Azerbaijan will be holding a UN Security Council presidency during a month. During its presidency, Azerbaijan will bring up according to the agenda ongoing processes in the Middle East, Africa and Balkan regions as well as other global issues such as peace and international security, fight against terrorism and resolution of conflicts, which are in focus of international community`s attention. As President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said, “First of all, we will be protecting and are protecting international law and justice in the Security Council.” Being a President of the Security Council, Azerbaijan as a terror- affected country plans to hold a high-level meeting entitled “Threats to international peace and security caused by terrorist acts.” Moreover, Azerbaijan, during its presidency in the Security Council, is going to conduct meetings on a variety of issues in order to raise major problems facing international community.”

Baku hosts 28th European Regional Conference of UN Food andAgriculture Organization
On April 19, the 28th European Regional Conference of Food and AgricultureOrganization of the United Nations kicked off in Baku at the Hilton hotel.President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev attended the opening ceremony.High-level delegates from over 50 countries took part in the discussions on food security.The conference also has brought together observers representing several internationalorganizations. The main objective of the regional conference is to approve program andbudget of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations for the years 2012and 2013, set priorities for the development of agriculture, forestry and fisheries for theyears 2014 and 2015. The ministers’ round tables as part of the conference will focus onthe issues of food safety. Director-General of the United Nations Food and AgricultureOrganization (FAO) Jose Graziano da Silva expressed his gratitude to the Azerbaijan’sPresident for the high level organization of the conference and participation in theopening ceremony. President Ilham Aliyev addressed the opening ceremony of theconference and later met with its participants. President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev onWednesday received Director-General of the United Nations Food and AgricultureOrganization (FAO) Jose Graziano da Silva and his accompanying delegation.The Head of State expressed satisfaction with successful cooperation between Azerbaijanand FAO, and described Baku`s hosting the 28th European Regional Conference of theFAO as a `good` sign of this cooperation.

 President Ilham Aliyev headed to Czech Republic for state visit
On April 4, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev left for Czech Republic for a state visit. Following the official welcoming ceremony, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and first lady Mehriban Aliyeva met President of Czechia Vaclav Klaus and his spouse Livia Klausova. Presidents Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan and Vaclav Klaus of Czechia had an expanded meeting. The sides praised the bilateral relations, saying they were strengthening in a variety of fields, particularly political and economic ones. They pointed out to the existence of good potential for the expansion of the economic cooperation between Azerbaijan and Czechia. The sides also stressed the successful continuation of the two countries` relations within the European Union. Following an expanded meeting of presidents Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan and Vaclav Klaus of Czechia the countries signed several bilateral documents witnessed by the two leaders. Azerbaijan`s Culture and Tourism Minister Abulfas Garayev and Czechia`s Minister for Regional Development Kamil Jankovsky signed an agreement on cooperation in the field of tourism between Azerbaijan`s Culture and Tourism Ministry and Czechia`s Ministry for Regional Development. Azerbaijan`s Culture and Tourism Minister Abulfas Garayev and Czech Minister of Culture Alena Hanakova signed an agreement on cooperation in the sphere of culture between Azerbaijan`s Culture and Tourism Ministry and Czechia`s Ministry of Culture. Azerbaijani ambassador to the Czech Republic Tahir Tagizade and director of the Czech National Museum Michal Lukes signed a memorandum of understanding between the National Museum of Azerbaijani History and Czechia`s National Museum. Azerbaijani ambassador to the Czech Republic Tahir Tagizade and Director of the Czech National Library Tomas Bohm signed a memorandum of cooperation between Azerbaijan National Library after Mirza Fatali Akhundov and Czechia`s National Library. Following a ceremony of signing the Azerbaijan-Czechia documents Presidents Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan and Vaclav Klaus of Czechia gave a joint press conference. The Presidents made a joint press statement.

President of Azerbaijan arrived in Korea for working visit
On March 25, president of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev arrived in Korea for a working visit aimed at attending Nuclear Security Summit in Seoul on March 26-27.
On March 27, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev addressed the Nuclear Security Summit. The second day of the Summit focused on national measures in the field of nuclear security and the strengthening of physical security at nuclear facilities. World leaders discussed international cooperative measures to protect nuclear materials and facilities from terrorist groups. Speakers at the event stressed that nuclear terrorism continued to remain a global threat, adding, however, the world countries were moving in the right direction. In his speech, President Aliyev said nuclear terrorism was a priority issue for all world countries, including Azerbaijan. The President said Azerbaijan respected international resolutions on nuclear security. President Aliyev said Azerbaijan was fulfilling those resolutions, adding his country supported and would always support the international community’s efforts on this front. On the issue of nuclear security in the region, President Aliyev said Armenia’s Nuclear Power Station, which was built in 1976, was already outdated.
