Azerbaijan discuss prospects for cooperation with South African Republic and Portugal in New York
On January 12, Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov met in New York with Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, Minister of International Relations and Cooperation of the Republic of South Africa, currently holding rotating presidency in the United Nations Security Council. During the meeting, they discussed the ways of strengthening relations between Azerbaijan and the Republic of South Africa. They also discussed prospects for cooperation between the two countries in all fields. The sides underlined the two countries have huge potential to expand bilateral cooperation even more.Mammadyarov briefed the South Africa’s Minister on reforms in Azerbaijan, country’s achievements, problems in the region, as well as the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh problem. During the meeting the parties agreed to boost the bilateral relations, including the organization of high-level reciprocal visits. The Azeri Minister also met Luis Brites Pereira, the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs of Portugal. During the meeting, they discussed cooperation between the two countries and relations within the UN and other international organizations even more.Pereira hailed political and economic relations between Portugal and Azerbaijan. The Portuguese Secretary of State underlined the two countries were interested in cooperation in the fields of energy, infrastructure, telecommunication and tourism.They also discussed a number of other issues of mutual interest.

President Ilham Aliyev: “Our current military potential enables us to free our native lands from occupiers at any time”
“As in the economic sphere, all-round reforms are conducted in military area in Azerbaijan. Our military strength and potential are growing”. President Ilham Aliyev said in his congratulatory message to the Azerbaijani people on the occasion of the Day of Solidarity of World Azerbaijanis and New Year. The Head of State said in 2011, our military expenditure exceeded $3 billion. This is more than Armenia`s total expenditure. Next year our military expenditure will increase further. The latest weaponry, hardware, warplanes, helicopter gunships and ammunition are and will be brought to Azerbaijan. In addition, more than 600 types of military products are manufactured in Azerbaijan through the Ministry of Defense Industry which was established several years ago.” “We will continue doing our utmost to strengthen our military potential in the future. Our current military potential enables us to free our native lands from occupiers at any time. We simply haven’t lost hope in the negotiations and for the time being these negotiations should be continued.”

President of Azerbaijan received Premier of Saint Vincent and Grenadines
On December 29, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received Prime Minister of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Ralph Gonsalves. Ralph Gonsalves congratulated President Ilham Aliyev on his 50th anniversary and election of Azerbaijan as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council. He underlined he had witnessed rapid development in Baku. The Premier said Saint Vincent and the Grenadines was interested in development of cooperation with Azerbaijan in the fields of education, tourism, investment and infrastructure. The Head of State expressed hope Prime Minister of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Ralph Gonsalves`s visit to Azerbaijan would contribute to boosting bilateral relations between the two countries.

President Ilham Aliyev received Argentine minister of science, technology and productive innovation
On November 2, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received Lino Baranao, Argentine Minister of Science, Technology and Productive Innovation. The Head of State said active cooperation was established between Azerbaijan and Argentina. President Aliyev said Argentina was the first among the Latin American countries where the embassy of Azerbaijan has been opened. He underlined both countries should use their opportunities to develop regional cooperation. The Head of State said Lino Baranao is the first Argentine minister, who had visited Azerbaijan. President Ilham Aliyev stressed the importance of reciprocal visits for widening relationship.Minister Lino Baranao said it was his first visit to Azerbaijan. He said he had witnessed big economic development in the country. He said Azerbaijan takes up a strategic stand in the region and his country attaches great importance to establish partnership relations with Azerbaijan.
